Car seat checks are a free service provided by certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) from Safe Kids Marathon County partner agencies. Services provided by a CPST at a car seat check:
- Check the car seat for recalls, visible damage, and an expiration date.
- Review that the car seat selected is appropriate for the child.
- Educate caregiver on correct harnessing, installation, and use of car seat.
- Coach caregiver through seat installation into their vehicle, providing assistance and answering questions as needed.
- Discuss the next steps for your child, such as when to move to the next type of car seat.
Appointments are approximately 30 minutes per car seat. Please make one appointment for each car seat. If you need 4 or more seats checked, please call 715-847-2864 to schedule appointments. If expecting, we recommend scheduling an appointment during the third trimester and at least 4 weeks in advance of due date.
It is recommended, but not required, to bring the child whose seat is being checked to the appointment to ensure correct harness fit (not applicable for those expecting). Please bring your vehicle manual AND car seat manual(s) to the appointment, if available.
Appointments are held at Aspirus Wausau Hospital – ENTRANCE C (Birthing Center Entrance). Please pull your vehicle up under the overhang at Entrance C (Birthing Center Entrance).
If you need to use GPS, enter in the address for the Aspirus Family Walk-in (blue star on map below), 2720 Plaza Dr, Wausau. That will get you closest to Entrance C (red star on map below).
