This special car seat check event is being held at Riverside Fire District, 20 Alexander Ave, Rothschild, WI 54474. Upon arrival for your appointment, you will be guided to park in one of the ambulance bays.
Appointments are approximately 30 minutes per car seat. Please make one appointment for each car seat. If you need 4 or more seats checked, please call or text 715-575-1645 to schedule appointments. If expecting, we recommend scheduling an appointment during the third trimester and at least 4 weeks in advance of due date.
It is recommended, but not required, to bring the child whose seat is being checked to the appointment to ensure correct harness fit (not applicable for those expecting). Please bring your vehicle manual AND car seat manual(s) to the appointment, if available. Note: Kids that attend appointments at this special event will get to check out the fire trucks!
Car seat checks are a free service provided by certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) from Safe Kids Marathon County partner agencies. Services provided by a CPST at a car seat check:
- Check the car seat for recalls, visible damage, and an expiration date.
- Review that the car seat selected is appropriate for the child.
- Educate caregiver on correct harnessing, installation, and use of car seat.
- Coach caregiver through seat installation into their vehicle, providing assistance and answering questions as needed.
- Discuss the next steps for your child, such as when to move to the next type of car seat.
